# Why is AnyDesk slow even on a LAN connection?

If you are connected via LAN but experiencing performance issues, AnyDesk might not be using a direct connection. Instead, the Session may be routed through the public AnyDesk network.

To ensure a direct LAN connection:

1. **Check for the**![](https://cdn.document360.io/b94c9ac2-20ec-4c7e-b325-135b0ed113f9/Images/Documentation/icon.png)**icon** This icon in the session toolbar confirms a direct LAN connection. If it is missing, a direct connection is not active.
2. **Enable direct connections** Go to **Settings**>**Connections** and ensure **Allow direct connections** is enabled.
3. **Reconnect the session** Close the session and reconnect. This allows AnyDesk to re-establish the connection using the updated settings.

> [!TIP]
> 💡 **NOTE**
>
> Installing AnyDesk instead of running it in portable mode improves LAN detection and connection reliability.

A session is a screen of a device shared within a concurrent connection. You can create a connection with a remote device, and you can create another session with the same remote device. Each opened window on the connected remote device will be displayed as a separate session. In AnyDesk, session is represented in separate windows on Windows and in tabs on Mac.
