# Using Chat

AnyDesk lets you send messages to another user during a connection request and an active session.

---

## Sending messages

When a user receives a connection request, an **Accept Window** appears, including a chat box. Regardless of whether the session has been accepted, both users can exchange messages.

During an active session, the initiating user can open the chat window by clicking ![chat](https://f.hubspotusercontent40.net/hubfs/7940397/Help%20Center/Session%20Settings/chat.png) from the toolbar.

---

## Session chat history

AnyDesk stores chat history locally for both standard and custom clients.

By default, the chat logs can be found in the following locations:

Standard clientsCustom clients

- **Windows**: `%appdata%\AnyDesk\chat`
- **macOS/Linux**: `~/.AnyDesk/chat`

- **Windows**: `%appdata%\AnyDesk\ad_<prefix>\chat`
- **macOS/Linux**: `~/.AnyDesk-ad_<prefix>/chat`

Chat logs are organized by the AnyDesk ID of the remote device. All messages exchanged between the same IDs, even across multiple sessions, are merged into a single log file.
