# Mirror driver for Windows

The **Mirror Driver** improves screen capture performance on older Windows systems that do not fully support the rendering methods used by AnyDesk.

This is particularly relevant for:

- **Windows XP**
- **Windows 7**
- Corresponding **Windows Server editions**

If you experience reduced performance on these systems, installing the mirror driver can help improve responsiveness and display quality.

## **Installation**

To install the mirror driver:

1. Download the [Mirror driver](http://web.archive.org/web/20190901191850/http://www.demoforge.com/tightvnc/dfmirage-setup-2.0.301.exe)
2. Extract the downloaded archive.
3. Run the setup file as an administrator.
4. Complete the installation by following the on-screen instructions.
5. Restart your device to apply changes.

## Configuration

On non-server operating systems, enable the mirror driver in AnyDesk:

1. Navigate to **Settings** > **Capture.**
2. Select the **Force mirror driver** checkbox.

Enabling this option temporarily disables the Windows Aero interface to improve performance.

## Windows 7

The mirror driver requires AnyDesk to be****[**installed**](/v1/docs/installation#installed-mode-with-installation) (not run in portable mode). It is only necessary if Windows Aero is disabled.

> 💡 **NOTE**
> 
> In rare cases, using the mirror driver on Windows 7 may reduce performance. If this occurs, uninstall the driver via **Control Panel**> **Add or Remove Programs**.

A display driver that improves screen capture performance on older Windows systems, particularly relevant for systems that do not fully support modern rendering methods.
