# Uninstall AnyDesk

Follow the steps below to completely uninstall AnyDesk on Windows or macOS.

## Uninstall on Windows

Installed versionPortable version

To remove the **installed** version of AnyDesk:

1. In your system tray, right-click the **AnyDesk** icon and select **Exit AnyDesk.**
2. Click **Windows Start Menu** and open **Settings**.
3. Navigate to **Apps > Installed apps.**
4. Find AnyDesk in the list of programs and select **Uninstall.**
5. In the confirmation window, select **Uninstall** again.
6. When the **AnyDesk uninstaller** opens, select the **Remove settings** checkbox to delete all AnyDesk settings.
7. Select **Uninstall** to continue.

The uninstaller removes **AnyDesk**.

To remove the **portable** version of AnyDesk:

1. In your system tray, right-click the **AnyDesk** icon and select **Exit AnyDesk.**
2. In **File Explorer**, navigate to the location where you saved the portable **AnyDesk** folder.
3. Right-click the **AnyDesk** folder, and select **Delete**.
4. Press **Windows + R** to open the **Run** dialog.
5. Type *%APPDATA%*, and press **Enter**.
6. In the **AppData\Roaming** folder, find and delete the **AnyDesk** folder.

## Uninstall on macOs

Installed versionPortable version

To remove the **installed** version of AnyDesk:

1. Open AnyDesk and go to ![](https://cdn.document360.io/b94c9ac2-20ec-4c7e-b325-135b0ed113f9/Images/Documentation/image(111).png) > About **AnyDesk**.
2. Hold the **Option/Alt** key.
3. In the top-right corner of the window, click **Uninstall**.
4. In **Finder**, find and delete the following folders:
  - `~/.anydesk/`
  - `/etc/anydesk/` (for standard clients)
  - `~/.anydesk-ad_&lt;prefix&gt;/`
  - `/etc/anydesk-ad_&lt;prefix&gt;/` (for custom clients)

To remove the **portable** version of AnyDesk:

1. In the menu bar, right-click the **AnyDesk** icon and select **Quit**.
2. In **Finder**, go to the **Applications** folder and move the **AnyDesk app** to the **Trash**.
3. In **Finder**, find and delete the following folders:
  - `~/.anydesk/`
  - `/etc/anydesk/` (for standard clients)
  - `~/.anydesk-ad_&lt;prefix&gt;/`
  - `/etc/anydesk-ad_&lt;prefix&gt;/` (for custom clients)

> 🚨 **IMPORTANT**
> 
> Deleting these folders will permanently remove the AnyDesk ID and Alias from the device. These cannot be restored unless previously backed up. For details, see [Back up AnyDesk ID and Settings.](/docs/back-up-anydesk-id-and-settings)

## Confirm removal of AnyDesk

After uninstallation, verify AnyDesk has been completely removed:

WindowsmacOS

- Open **Programs and Features**, and confirm that **AnyDesk** is not listed.
- Check the **installation directories** (such as C:\Program Files or C:\Program Files (x86)) and ensure the **AnyDesk** folder has been deleted.
- In the system tray, confirm that the AnyDesk icon is not present.
- Restart computer and verify no AnyDesk processes start automatically.

- Open the **Applications** folder, and confirm that **AnyDesk** is not present.
- Check the **menu bar**, and ensure no **AnyDesk** **icon** appears.
- Open **Activity Monitor**, and confirm that no **AnyDesk processes** are running.

A unique number automatically assigned to each installed AnyDesk app. It’s used to identify the device and connect to it remotely.

A name-based address used to identify a device in AnyDesk. Unlike the AnyDesk ID, which is a numerical address, the Alias uses a username and a Namespace (e.g. name@namespace) to make devices easier to recognize and manage.
