# Why did my API key stop working?

On August 13, 2026, [my.anydesk II](https://my.anydesk.com/v2) transitioned to a new method of generating and validating API keys to enhance security.

## **What does this mean for you?**

- API keys generated before August 13, 2026, are deprecated and no longer function.
- Existing API keys cannot be retrieved from your [my.anydesk II](https://my.anydesk.com/v2) portal.
- Newly generated API keys have a maximum validity of 1 year.

## **How do I generate a new API key?**

1. Log into your my.anydesk II portal.

5. 6. The key will now appear in your **API Keys** list. The table displays the key name, creation date, expiration date, a truncated version of the key, and an option to delete it.
